Evergreen Surety Launches Transportation Surety Bonds Page

Evergreen Surety has launched a new transportation surety bonds page for contractors and operators working with public agencies. These bonds are the guarantees public agencies, transit authorities, and municipalities require before they issue a permit or award a contract. They apply to work in the public right of way, toll road concessions, transit service and capital contracts, and the trades that support all three. The page also covers where transportation bond programs break down, from permit deadlines that don’t move to the capacity ceiling a small carrier pool creates.

The page outlines who the agency works with. Toll operators and concessionaires pursuing or holding long-term agreements with tollway authorities and public-private partnership owners. Bus and transit operations companies bonding service contracts, capital work, and facility obligations. Ancillary contractors in transportation corridors, including guardrail installers, erosion control contractors, and utility subcontractors who carry permit bonds as a standing condition of doing business. Owners and CFOs of midsize to large firms running multiple active bonds across multiple obligees. Transportation is one of the industries Evergreen serves under its commercial surety bonds practice.

The page also breaks down the bond types Evergreen writes:

  • Right-of-way permit bonds, which municipalities, county highway departments, and state DOTs require before issuing a permit to work in the public right of way.
  • Toll road surety bonds, guaranteeing a concessionaire’s or contractor’s obligations to a tollway authority or public-private partnership owner.
  • Transit surety bonds, which municipal and regional transit agencies require on service contracts and capital projects.
  • Performance bonds and payment bonds, both mandatory on DOT, transit, and toll agency contracts above statutory thresholds.
  • Transportation contractor bonds, the license, permit, and regulatory bonds state and local agencies tie to operating authority.

Heavy highway and paving contractors bidding DOT construction work should start with construction contractor surety bonds instead.

Getting started begins with a conversation about the obligee, the bond form, and the deadline. Evergreen names the documents underwriters will want upfront, markets the account to the carriers best suited to that obligee, and negotiates terms on the contractor’s behalf. After issuance, Evergreen benchmarks capacity, watches indemnity exposure, and manages renewals as project load grows.
